KATVA RIDES AND EVENTS

Join us! We welcome you to join in the fun, meet other riders and see the trails.

KATVA scheduled club rides are a great way to experience new trails in a guided format. It is an excellent way to meet other club members, make new friends and learn from others. All club rides are conducted by a Ride Team and led by an experienced Ride Leader. Ride Leaders know the trails and will ensure everyone completes the ride safely. The Ride Leader is assisted by both a Middleman and a Sweeper. In some cases additional volunteers will be added to the group depending on how many riders we have. The roles of each Ride Team position is described later in this section.

These guidelines apply to all club organized rides: 

After reviewing the Events and Rides Schedule, select a ride within your skill level. Do not join a ride above your skill level. To do so increases unnecessary risk for yourself and may jeopardize the ride timeline for more experienced riders.


DISCLAIMER: Rides are subject to cancellation, rescheduling, and compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal laws and regulations relating to COVID-19. It is expected that all riders will take required measures to follow applicable laws and regulations in addition to those rules specifically set out by the local club at the time of the event. KORMA reserves the right to prohibit participation to any member who fails to act in accordance with these terms and take further action as the circumstances may require. In addition to the inherent risks associated with off-road motorcycling, participants accept the additional risks COVID-19 creates for riders and indemnifies KORMA, the local municipalities(s), organizers, volunteers and other riders from any COVID related consequences or effects upon personal health and well-being that may flow from participation.

    Join us on a Memorial Ride through the trails that meant so much to our volunteers who are no longer with us. On this ride, we pay tribute to all the KATVA volunteers lost through the years by doing something they loved so much - riding the trails and sharing the trails with others!

    Bring snacks and a lunch.

    This is an intermediate level ride.

    SXS must not exceed 64 inch width.

    2-ups with passengers must be legal factory 2-ups.

    If you wish to make it a camping weekend and join us around the campfire, contact Log Chateau directly. They set aside some sites each year in the Horseshoe. Number of sites may be limited and are first come, first served.

    Just for the Ladies! A day on the trails while the men do the cooking!

    Join us for an exciting day of trail riding through the scenic trails of Kawartha Lakes. This ride will take us through a leafy canopy of dense forests, wind along natural curves of hills and valleys, and take in stunning views of wetland vistas.

    Midway through the ride we’ll stop along the quiet shore of the Burnt River where a couple of handsome gentlemen will serve up a delicious BBQ lunch and sweet treats just for us.  

    This ride is suitable for all ladies whether you’re a novice or expert rider. It’s a no pressure, fun and scenic day of camaraderie and adventure.

    Bring snacks for on the trails. 

    The registration fee of $50 includes lunch and a gift.

    The Kawartha Black Bear Ride Returns!

    And so is the $500 door prize draw!

    Join KATVA & KORMA for the return of the Kawartha Black Bear Ride featuring Olympic medalist Elvis Stojko! After the ride, meet professional figure skater and model Gladys Orozco at The Bear Den at Log Chateau. 

    Experience some of the best ATV and off-road motorcycle trails in the Kawarthas as you explore the Somerville Forest and challenge yourself on the 5-Points Trail System. Whether you're returning for another year or joining us for the first time, you're in for an unforgettable day on the trails.

    After your adventure, head back to The Bear Den for a relaxed BBQ cookout and fundraising activities. Bring a lawn chair!

    All ride attendees who are 18 years of age or older will be entered into a draw for a $500 Door Prize!

    Registration

    Pre-registration is required by September 28 for everyone attending the ride and/or dinner.

    • ATVs, SXS, and dirt bikes are welcome.

    • Children under 8 years of age may not participate in the ride but are welcome to attend the dinner with a registered adult.

    • If you plan to camp at Log Chateau, please contact the campground directly at 705-887-3960 and let them know you are with KATVA. They will do their best to group our campers together.

    Event Fees (Ride and BBQ Dinner)

    • $50 – Adults and Youth 11 years old and up

    • $10 – Children under 10 

    Ride Information

    A valid trail pass is required to participate in the ride. Trail passes from our Family of Clubs are accepted:

    • HATVA

    • Algonquin West ATV Club

    • Lake of Bays ATV Club

    • Quad Niagara ATV Club

    Day passes will be available for purchase at the event.

    Dirt bike riders must be current OFTR members or purchase a day pass at the event.

    All youth under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

    Ride check-in begins at 8:00 a.m.

    Supporting The Kibble Project

    Throughout the day, enjoy fundraising activities, prizes, and a silent auction featuring pet-related items and a variety of great merchandise.

    All proceeds support The Kibble Project, helping pet rescues, animal sanctuaries, and other organizations provide much-needed food and supplies to animals in their care.

    Come for the ride, stay for the fun, and help make a difference for animals in need.

    Looking for a fun way to spend a beautiful fall afternoon? Everyone is welcome at The Bear Den! Bring the whole family.

    Join us at Log Chateau for an afternoon of delicious food, family fun, and community spirit as we raise funds for The Kibble Project. Meet Olympic medalist Elvis Stojko and professional figure skater and model Gladys Orozco, browse our silent auction, participate in fundraising activities, and enjoy a casual BBQ at the Log Chateau Pavilion.

    Admission (includes BBQ dinner)

MORE ABOUT RIDES:

Always register prior to the ride to confirm your attendance.  A Ride Leader will provide details pertaining to the ride, including a meeting location, time and relevant details.

    • Plan to attend the Ride Meeting to confirm details and meet the Ride Team. It is your responsibility to ensure you have a valid trail permit, plate, insurance and driver’s license. No alcohol or cannabis use is permitted on rides.
    • The Ride Leader’s Meeting is called usually about 5 minutes before the start time provided. All riders and passengers must be signed in. If you are not a KATVA member, you can obtain a day pass from the Ride Team.
    • The Ride Team will be introduced, ride details will be confirmed – including any last minute changes – and a rider count will be conducted.

The Ride Leader will set the pace for the entire group. If you have difficulty keeping up, inform someone on the Ride Team at your first opportunity. Do not pass the Ride Leader or others unless directed to do so. Do not stray behind the Sweeper. If you have to temporarily fall back the Sweeper will stay with you. Ride Leaders schedule all breaks and lunch stops. Please wait for scheduled breaks if possible. If you must drop out of the ride, A Ride Team member will ensure you return safely to the start location.  Do not simply leave the club ride – communicate your intention to leave with a Ride Team Member.

The rider behind you in the procession is your responsibility. Know who they are and what ATV/SXS they are riding. If you lose sight of the rider behind you, slow to a stop and wait until they are in sight. Any single stoppage will result in a full stop of the entire procession. In the absence of communication between riders, this serves as a means to keep everyone together and to alert the Ride Team of any issues. When a trail branches off, stop and ensure the rider behind you sees which direction you travelled. After crossing a difficult section (i.e. ditch, mud hole, water crossing, steep hill), ensure the rider following you makes it through. It may be necessary for you to stop and assist or for you to attract others to help.


FOR PAID RIDES AND EVENTS - REGISTRATION AND REFUNDS: Only registered riders may attend or participate in the ride at their respective ride time. Unregistered riders will be turned away. All riders must register online and in advance. Riders are not permitted to register or attend for more than one time unless authorized by KATVA/KORMA for the purpose of providing support or volunteering. Riders must be a member of KATVA/KORMA, be over the age of 16, and properly insured / plated for the trails in Ontario.

Refunds will be provided if the event cannot proceed due to COVID restrictions or other unforeseen circumstances. Refunds beyond that will be made on a case by case basis with open spaces, upon refund, going to KATVA/KORMA members on respective waiting lists. Registration may be limited to KATVA/KORMA members and is non-transferable.
